Domains & DNS
What is DNS?
The internet's phone book that translates your domain name into the IP address of your server.
DNS (Domain Name System) is the global directory that turns a domain name like yourbusiness.com into the IP address of the server hosting your site. When you change hosts, you update DNS records or nameservers so traffic flows to the new server. Changes are not instant — they spread across the internet in a process called propagation, which usually completes within a few hours. If your site is unreachable after a move, a DNS lookup is the first thing to check.
